Most cycles come from a customer checking out, but you can also start one yourself: for a phone booking, an event, or a rental you’re moving over from another system. To add cycles to an order that already exists instead, see Edit cycles on order.

Create the order

You can create a cycle order on a customer’s behalf from the Supercycle admin. Supercycle builds a Shopify draft order for you to take payment on.
An in-app create order flow is in beta. It’s described on Create cycle order under the New create order flow beta feature.

Open Cycles

Go to Cycles and select Create cycle order.

Pick or add a customer

Supercycle asks who the order is for before it opens the Shopify draft order. Search for a Shopify customer by name or email and select them. If they don’t exist yet, select Add new customer and enter their first name, last name, and email. Email is required.
The customer picker searches every customer in your Shopify store, not only the customers already synced to Supercycle.

Continue to the draft order

Select Continue. Supercycle creates a Shopify draft order for the customer you selected.

Add a product

Search for the product, select its cycle method, and for a calendar rental select the rental period and dates. Supercycle checks the item’s availability. Add more products if the order needs them.

Save to the draft order

Select Save. Supercycle adds the cycles to the Shopify draft order.

Customize the draft order (optional)

On the draft order, apply discounts, add shipping, or add tags and a note.
Adding a product directly on the draft order doesn’t create a cycle for it. Add cycles from Supercycle.

Take payment and create the order

Select Collect payment to mark the order as paid or enter card details, or tick Payment due later. Then create the order. The order appears in Shopify, and its cycles appear on Cycles.

Reserve inventory on a draft order

A draft order hasn’t been paid, so the units on it aren’t held unless they’re reserved. Without a reserve, another customer can book the same item while the draft sits waiting for payment.

Automatic reserves

Supercycle reserves inventory automatically whenever cycles are added to a draft order, so a unit can’t be double-booked while the draft is unpaid. Nothing is required from you, and Shopify shows Reserve items as active on the draft. The reserve lasts 7 days from when the draft is created. Change either behavior under Channels, in the Draft orders section:
  • Reserve inventory automatically. Turns the behavior on or off.
  • Reserve inventory for. How long inventory stays reserved after the draft order is created.

Reserve items by hand

Reserve items on a draft yourself with Shopify’s Reserve items, which is useful when automatic reserves are off or you want a specific expiry.

Open the draft order

Go to Draft orders and open the draft that contains the cycle.

Turn on Reserve items

In the Reserve items card, set an expiry date and time, then select Save. Shopify shows the reserve as active on the draft.
While a reserve is active, the unit is held with an internal block spanning the cycle’s pickup and return dates, and no other cycle can book it in that window.
Changing the cycle dates on the draft moves the reserve window with them.

When a reserve is released

The reserve ends as soon as any of these happens:
  • You turn Reserve items off on the draft.
  • The customer pays and the draft becomes an order, and the cycle picks an available unit as normal.
  • The draft is canceled or deleted.
  • You remove the cycle line from the draft.
  • The reserve expiry time passes.
