How it works
Dunning starts when Shopify can’t process a recurring billing attempt for a subscription or membership cycle. Checkout charges and one-off charges aren’t retried this way. While dunning is active, the charge page shows a Dunning active banner with the attempt count out of the maximum, the next scheduled retry, and a Retry now button. The banner also shows the reason the last payment failed, as Shopify reported it. A retry only runs when no payment is pending and the interval since the last failed attempt has passed. After the last retry fails, the dunning ends and the Payment collection failed Flow trigger fires. If the charge is canceled, its dunning is canceled too and no further attempts are made.Set up dunning
1
Open Risk settings
Go to Risk. The Dunning card is at the top.
2
Set the retries
Enter the Maximum retries and the Time between retries, and pick Days or Hours for the interval.
3
Save
Select Save in the save bar. The new schedule applies to dunning that starts from now on.
The failed charge email is turned on or off for the whole store under Emails. It can’t be changed per dunning record.
