Installing Supercycle
Congratulations! You've taken your first steps towards building a solid foundation for your rental e-commerce store.
Regardless of the rental methods you're planning on using Supercycle for, you'll need to take the steps in this guide to set your store up. Once you're done, you can continue to the Membership Setup guide.
You can install Supercycle from the Shopify app store here.

If you've previously sold on your Shopify store, you should be able to skip this step.
Supercycle requires you to use one of the following payment gateways.
- Shopify payments
- PayPal Express
- Authorize.net
- Stripe Only available to some merchants on Shopify
If you're new to Shopify, we recommend enabling Shopify payments in test mode so that you can test your rental store as you're building it.
- Activate Shopify payments. You'll need to enter some details about your business.
- In the Shopify admin go to Settings > Payments.
- In the Shopify Payments section, click Manage.
- In the Test mode section, select Enable test mode.
- Click Save.
Supercycle is built to work with Shopify Online store 2.0 theme. Online Store 2.0 is a set of features and feature improvements that make themes and theme apps easier to build, more flexible, and easier to maintain.
If your store is not using a 2.0 theme, Supercycle can be added manually, however we recommend all merchants update to a 2.0 theme.
- From your Shopify admin, go to Online store
- Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize
- On the sidebar, click the App embed icon.
- Select the Supercycle app embed.
- Beside the Supercycle app embed click the toggle to activate it.
- View the settings for the Supercycle app embed by clicking the expand icon. Here you can edit the customer portal style.
- Preview your store to view the embedded app live.

Supercycle can be added to your theme as app blocks. This lets you add Supercycle functionality exactly where you want to use it on a page. There are a number of different app blocks to add to your theme, these are:
Rental button: Add this to your product template. It enables the customer to rent the item instead of buying it.
Membership credit cost: Add this to your product template. It displays the credit cost of the item.
Membership credit overview: Gives an overview of the customer's membership. A good place to add this is in the header so it can be seen on every page. Or could just be added to the key page, collection, product, and checkout.
Cart notice: Add this block to your cart page, this will allow Supercycle to check the content of the customer's cart to display information and block the checkout buttons if needed. For example, if the customer doesn't have enough credits.
To enable products to be rented you will need to add the Rental button app block to your theme product page. To get Supercycle to check the cart contents add Cart notice to your cart page.
