Logistics buffers pad a rental from other rentals to allow your team time to recondition and prepare an item ready for its next rental, and get it to and from the customer.

The rental period + logistics buffers = the reservation period.

You can see the buffers around a rental by comparing its rental dates and reservation dates

Your Preparation buffer and Outbound delivery buffer make up your outbound logistics.

Preparation buffers are coming to Supercycle in Q3 2024.

Your Reverse delivery buffer and Restock buffer make up your reverse logistics.

Considerations

Effects on availability shown to customers

When Ally thinks of availability of any item over time, she considers the item to be unavailable for the full length of the reservation (including your buffers).

DIAGRAM HERE

Items won’t be available for a membership rental until either the end of any existing reservations on an item or the item is restocked after its last reservation, whichever is soonest.

When a customer is browsing products to rent by calendar rental, Ally places buffers around the rental period the customer has selected when calculating which items are available for the rental.

DIAGRAM HERE

Effects of restocking an item on reservations

When an item is restocked following a rental, Supercycle makes it immediately available for future rentals, even if the original reservation with your buffers extended beyond the time of restock. This is because the item is ready to go back out again.

Setting up logistics buffers

1

Navigate to logistics settings

In Shopify Admin, head to Supercycle > Settings > Logistics

2

Set buffers

Under Delivery, set your delivery buffer.

Under Return, set your reverse delivery time.

Under Restock, set your restock time.

Products can have a custom restock time which overrides the global default defined here, set during the calendar product setup.

Save your changes before exiting.
