# Override dates

> Charge a different calendar price during a season, on certain days of the week, or for a one-off event

Override dates let you charge a different price for a rental period depending on when it starts: a higher rate over the festive season, a weekend surcharge, or a special price for one event. You define the dates once, then limit any calendar option to them. The customer sees one price per rental period, and it switches to the right one as soon as they pick a start date.

Manage override dates under <Icon icon="shopify" iconType="solid" /> **[Override dates](https://admin.shopify.com/apps/supercycle/settings/override-dates)**, then apply them to options on a product's Calendar method.

  Override dates are a calendar rental feature. Subscription, membership, and resale options can't be limited to dates.

## How it works

An override date is a shop-level set of dates, days of the week, or both, with a name such as `Festive season`, `Weekends`, or `Black Friday 2026`. It repeats in one of three ways:

| Repeats             | What you set                                                                           | Example                  |

| **Every week**      | Days of the week                                                                       | Saturdays and Sundays    |
| **Every year**      | A start and end month and day, repeating annually. The range can run over the year end | November 1 to January 15 |
| **Does not repeat** | An exact start and end date, for a one-off                                             | November 27 to 30, 2026  |

The two dated kinds can also be narrowed to certain days of the week, so `Autumn Fridays` matches only the Fridays inside its range.

Each override date also says which day of the rental it's checked against, under **Applies to cycles that**:

Because the options in a group share a duration, Supercycle works out the return date from the start date the customer picks. When an override date has days of the week, the date and the day must match on the same day of the rental.

On a product's Calendar method, options that share a duration form a group. An option applied to override dates is only offered when the rental falls on those dates in the way the override date says. An option with no override dates applies on every other date. When more than one option in a group matches the start date, the most specific one wins:

An option applied to several override dates matches when any of them matches. A single override date with both dates and days of the week matches only when both do.

For example, a 3-day option at \$120 with no override dates, a 3-day option at \$150 applied to `Weekends`, and a 3-day option at \$200 applied to `Festive season` give the customer one 3-day row. It's \$120 on a Wednesday in March, \$150 on a Saturday in March, and \$200 on any day inside the festive season, because a yearly range is more specific than days of the week.

## Create an override date

  <Step title="Name it (optional)">
    Enter a **Name** such as `Festive season`. Leave it blank and Supercycle names the override date from its dates.

  <Step title="Choose how it repeats">
    Set **Repeats** to how the dates recur:

    * **Every week.** Select the days under **Days of the week**.
    * **Every year.** Set a **Start** and **End** month and day.
    * **Does not repeat.** Set a **Start date** and **End date**.

  <Step title="Narrow to certain days (optional)">
    On a dated override date, tick **Only include certain days of the week** and select the days.

  <Step title="Choose which day of the rental counts">
    Set **Applies to cycles that** to the day of the rental the dates are checked against:

    * **Start on these dates.** The rental's start date. The default.
    * **End on these dates.** The rental's return date.
    * **Include any of these dates.** Any day of the rental.
    * **Fall entirely within these dates.** Every day of the rental.

    The summary under the fields shows what the override date matches, for example **Every week on Sat, Sun.** or **14 September – 20 September, every year. Applies to cycles that include any of these dates.**

    Select **Create override date**. It appears in the table with its **Repeats** summary and the number of **Options** it's applied to.

To edit or delete an override date, select its row. Renaming or changing its dates updates every option it's applied to. An override date that's still applied to an option can't be deleted. Remove it from those options first, and delete when the **Options** count is 0.

## Apply an override date to an option

    Under **Options**, select **Add option** and enter the **Checkout price** and **Duration** for the dates, or open an existing option. Keep an option with the same duration and no override dates as the fallback price, unless you only want to offer this duration on those dates.

  <Step title="Tick the override dates">
    Open **Apply on specific days** and tick the override dates the option applies on. Once you have 6 or more, a search box filters the list by name.

    Select **Add** or **Save** in the modal, then **Save** in the save bar. The **Applies on** column shows the override date names, or **Always** for options with none.

## What the customer sees

The Methods app block shows one row per duration, not one per option. Before the customer picks dates, each row shows the fallback price. Once they pick a start date, the price switches to the option that wins on that date, and the cart and checkout use that option's price.

A duration whose options are all limited to override dates isn't offered when the start date falls outside them. Before dates are picked, its row shows the cheapest of those options as an indicative price. That's how a weekends-only or event-only rental period works.

Manual orders in the admin and Shopify POS resolve options the same way from the chosen start date.

## Considerations

### Two unlimited options with one duration

Override dates only choose between options where at least one is limited to dates. Two options with the same duration and no override dates stay separately selectable by the customer.

### A method with only dated options

If every option on a product's Calendar method is limited to override dates, the product is only bookable on those dates. Add an option with no override dates to offer it the rest of the time.

### Markets, variants, and conditions

Override dates combine with the other [option targeting](/documentation/manage/products/managing-method-options#option-targeting) filters. An option is a candidate for a start date only if its market, variant, and condition also match.

## Override date FAQs

  <Accordion title="Can I charge more on Fridays without changing the rest of the week?">
    Yes. Create an **Every week** override date with Friday selected, then add an option with the same duration as your standard one, a higher price, and that override date applied. Rentals starting on a Friday use the higher price. Every other day uses the standard option.

  <Accordion title="Can a yearly range run over the year end?">
    Yes. An **Every year** override date from November 1 to January 15 matches every date in that range, in every year.

  <Accordion title="Why can't I delete an override date?">
    Supercycle blocks deletion while options are still applied to it. Check the **Options** column on <Icon icon="shopify" iconType="solid" /> **[Override dates](https://admin.shopify.com/apps/supercycle/settings/override-dates)**. When the count is 0, delete is allowed.

  <Accordion title="Which date decides the price when a rental spans two override dates?">
    By default the start date, the customer's **Arrive by** date, so a rental that starts before the festive season and returns inside it is priced as a normal rental. To catch that rental too, set the override date's **Applies to cycles that** to **Include any of these dates**. To charge the festive price only when the whole rental is inside the season, choose **Fall entirely within these dates**.

  <Accordion title="What happens when two options are equally specific?">
    Supercycle breaks the tie by the narrower date range, then by the fewer days of the week.

    If the options still tie, the admin shows a **Some options overlap** warning above the options table, and only the first one created is offered. Narrow one of the pair so customers see the price you intend.
